Hi friends! I just wanted to take a few moments to talk to you about some upcoming things. First I wanted to say that some of you may have noticed that Salsa Pie has been sharply focusing on creative family activities this year. When I saw this quote from the Center for Childhood Creativity, I thought that it best explained why I feel so inspired working on creative projects the whole family can enjoy:
" Our nation is waking up to the fact that creativity – a fundamental building block in the development of great leaders, thinkers and innovators – is declining at a critical rate."
My guess? The increase in screen time for children (think: television, texting, computer games, video games and more) doesn't help. But if you are anything like me, your children probably love to watch television from time to time or play the occasional computer game. It's hard to completely do away with those activities in a modern household.
So, how do we find balance? I believe by making a conscious effort to encourage creative family activities as a part of the routine. You can do this on the weekends or even on a specific day during the week designated for creative-family time.
Where to start?
I hope to help you with that! My goal is to provide you with many more ideas (like the ones you see in the collage above) both now and in the future to inspire you to spend time together as a family being creative.
The Global Water Crisis:
Also, I have an upcoming campaign I've been working on behind the scenes for a couple of months now with Water.org and The Mission List. I'll tell you more about that later, but it's going to be an awesome campaign. If you are a blogger and you'd like to participate in this September campaign with us, please join our Mission List group so we can have your email and send you updates.
And since the global water crisis is a personal passion of mine, here's something I'm doing on Monday:
I'm helping my friend Jenny of the Southern Institute to raise money for water for the nonprofit Blood: Water Mission on Monday. On Monday I'll be talking about that along with our regular activities here and show you how you can help.
My Magazine Cover Debut:
Remember that magazine project I was working on? Guess what? My felt leaf pin project made the cover (see the leaf pin on the little girl with the green shirt, bottom right corner) Stay tuned for updates about when Kids Craft 1-2-3 will be on shelves!
