This summer my husband and I have planned a Staycation for our family. Our Staycation plans have only four criteria: they have to be kid friendly, they have to be fun, they have to be local and they have to be free (or close to it). I hope to teach the children that adventure doesn't have to be costly or require lots of travel to be fun and that it can be found just about anywhere. It's a good lesson for me too!
This weekend marked Staycation Week 1 for us since the kids are out of school. So, we took the kids to a local scenic park. Amazingly, on such a gorgeous day, the park was pretty low on the visitors. When we made our way over to a historic landmark on the property, the girls went crazy observing all the wildflowers around!
The kids even helped to spread some wildflower seeds with a bonus that they got to make a wish!
What did they wish for, you wonder?
Well, to be able to stay up late and chase fireflies!
And guess what?
Their wish came true.

Summer FUN! Love it! COOL PICS!
Staycations are my favorite.
=D
How special. Love the 'wishers' the girls made wishes on :)
What a beautiful day! I love your staycation criteria. We have been trying to spend a weekend here and there being "tourists" in our own town. There are so many cool things to discover in your own neck of the woods!
Aw, Caroline - this is so beautiful! I love your philosophy on teaching your children that beautiful experiences don't need to be costly. It looks like your family has a wonderful summer to look forward to!
Looks like a fun adventure!
