summer staycation: a daycation and crayons in the toaster

This weekend we had a daycation: a trip to our local ice cream shop! We live right in-between Baltimore and D.C. (it's a actually a great place for commuters) and there are lots of little pockets here and there full of local flavor. Since my husband and I are both transplants here, we often enjoy these local sites just like tourists.

A favorite spot? The Ice Cream Cottage.

For under $10 our entire family can enjoy a cone. It's paradise for the kids, and since they have a picket-fenced-in area on the outside (with comfy wooden lawn furniture) it's paradise for us too! Inside they have colorful benches with fun checkerboards on the tables.

So, on Saturday we made what has become an almost regular trip to our favorite ice cream shop. After we all devoured ice cream cones and everyone had sticky hands rinsed and dried, we piled in the car and drove home.

Once home, someone was (miraculously) still hungry. So I popped a couple of pieces of bread in the toaster. Moments later I smelled what seemed to be melting? wax?
huh?
That's weird,
I thought as I hustled back into the kitchen. Smoke was coming coming out of toaster and I immediately rushed over and unplugged it! Inside were two crayons (orange and blue) melting all over the toast and dripping wax on the counter.

Yes, friends. Crayons in the toaster. Inside the toaster.

I have officially seen it all.

Happy Monday!

So did one of your little ones want to do one of those melted crayon pinterest activities?

YUMM - it sounds like a lovely place to grab some ice-cream! And the crayons in the toaster made me laugh out loud :) I hope the toaster is still usable!

hahahaha I opened the tumble drier and saw a flashing red light inside, thought it was exploding! Turned out to be a motion activated bouncy ball.
But crayons take the cake!!
