I thought this might be a good opportunity to tell some of my newer readers the story of Salsa Pie:
I started this blog in 2009 after having trouble finding creative projects to do with my children that did not require me to go to the craft store with a laundry list of supplies. Not only did that not suit our budget, but with (at the time) three small children (we now have 4) getting out and about wasn't always easy. So, I decided to start my own blog to not only motivate me to be creative with the kids but to inspire you to roll up your sleeves and do the same thing, using inspiration from things you find around the house.
Since 2009 Salsa Pie has grown in popularity and traffic. This makes me happy because I feel like ,in some small way, the message is getting out to parents that encouraging creativity is IMPORTANT.
You see, new research shows that we are not born creative or non-creative. A part of the brain called the aSTG is responsible for the kind of problem solving we use when were in our creative modes. And, there ARE definite ways to encourage children to use this part of their brain. We do this each time we work on a project with them or to ask them to write a story or to have them put on a play or build a fort. There are literally millions of ways to foster imagination and my hope is that this blog gives you one more little nook in your life to look for creative inspiration.
So, thank YOU for reading and sharing and taking time out of your day to visit.
